The aim of this project is to develop a Malaria EWS surveillance tool that can detect unexpected spatiotemporal changes (in both directions) in malaria cases and malaria deaths at sub-district level beyond predetermined thresholds. This work will build on a spatiotemporal EWS designed by Dr Giorgi and colleagues for neighbouring Mozambique As part ofIn this PhD, the candidate will conduct two components, a) a review of malaria EWSs in Sub-Saharan Africa across different transmission levels and the geostatistical methods used in EWS to date b) develop and validate a malaria EWS using novel geospatial techniques to analyse and visualise local upsurges, outbreaks and reductions in case load, build on a spatiotemporal EWS designed by Dr Giorgi and colleagues for neighbouring Mozambique
