The fundamental understanding of the combustion phenomena taking place in the vicinity of walls remains limited. This can be attributed to the fact that flame quenchingoccurs at only a few micrometers away from the wall posing a challenge from both anexperimental and computational point of view. The interaction of the flame with thewalls plays a key role in determining the lifespan of the combustors. With the currenttrend in the automotive and aerospace industries pushing towards smaller combustors,the phenomenon of flame-wall interaction (FWI) is becoming increasingly importantdue to its implications on pollutant formation and flame stability. Furthermore, thetreatment of near-wall turbulence for non-reacting flows is still a difficult problem andquite often the limiting factor in flow prediction of practical applications.
