Theoretical Physics - Optical topological solitons

Using topology opens exciting prospects to stabilise excitations in many-particle systems. In this research we will explore using topology in optics and on the interface between optical and condensed matter systems. The main objective is to classify and characterise solitary wave - like excitations in nonlinear optical systems according to their topological numbers and propose ways to realise them in laboratory. Our main tools will be analytical using modern algebra, but numerical simulations are also envisaged.
