Improvisation is structured (guided) yet free-flowing play. Somatic movement allows participants to connect through experiential sensation to self, others, the world (Feldenkrais, 1972). This research investigates how practices such as Body-Mind Centering, Contact Improvisation, Laban-Bartenieff, and Feldenkrais can be used to create new improvisational performance forms which respond to'the wild', and include the audience as players (Global Water Dances; BodyCartography Project; Standing with the Earth). It interrogates how the audience-participant's resulting experience of embodied connection encourages understanding of self as living entity both in and of the world, potentially leading towards a revised understanding of interconnected ecological (eco-centric)consciousness
