The need for urgent, societal change is widely acknowledged in light of the interconnectedcrises humanity is facing associated with climate breakdown (see Klinenberg, Araos and Koslov,2020; Bush, 202). These crises disproportionately affect society's most marginalised, in the UKas well as in countries of the Global South (Tokar, 2018). Responses to these challengesinclude local-global movements such as Extinction Rebellion (XR) and Transition Network whichaim to create a grassroots response, but while these movements frequently foregroundparticipation they have received criticism for their lack of diversity (see Bell, 2021 on the narrowdemographic profile of mainstream environmentalism; and Bell and Bevan, 2021 on thealienation of ethnic minorities and working classes from Extinction Rebellion).
