The project will involve computer modelling and simulation of current flow and the electromagnetic properties of conductor networks on microscopic and macroscopic scales. These calculations will be used to understand and plan parallel experimental work and part of the project may involve constructing and characterising magnetic field-shaping systems for quantum technologies. The project will involve one or more of the following strands, with a focus on the transfer of concepts and techniques between them:Classical and quantum transport in hybrid metallic and polymeric nanostructures designed to degrade and destroy glioblastoma brain cancer cells and involving collaboration with the School of Pharmacy.Macroscopic conductor networks (e.g. wire topologies and multi-layer printed circuit boards) optimised for a range of applications in quantum technologies, for example biomedical imaging, magnetic induction tomography imaging of biological and non-biological systems, quantum computing and quantum sensing. Some of these may involve collaboration with commercial partners.The development of optimised systems for the cooling and trapping of atoms for quantum technology applications.
