The main goal of this proposal is to develop and demonstrate a fundamentally different addressing approach without these limitations, namely frequency addressing using ultranarrow clock lasers. By addressing in frequency space instead of real space, this approach is fundamentally independent of the diffraction limit. In ultracold fermionic Strontium, there is an ultra-narrow clock line at 698nm with a linewidth of less than 1Hz. This line also forms the basis for the most accurate atomic clocks (e.g. NPL, Ye group JILA, ...). Our group is currently constructing a new ultracold Strontium experiment and we have access to a suitable high-power clock laser, i.e. a Ti:Sa laser stabilised to a ULE cavity with Hz-level linewidth.
