Long-acting depots for treatment of a globally neglected disease

Long acting injections (LAIs) of small molecules are a rapidly expanding area of interest for the pharma industry, with new opportunities being explored for a range of conditions such as infectious disease (including globally neglected diseases), and cancer. Also, the post injection distribution of drug and formulations after administration of LAIs, and how this impacts drug release is still poorly understood. Hence the goals of this project are to develop a long acting depot formulation for a drug used to treat a globally neglected disease and novel imaging techniques (3D OrbiSIMS and ToF SIMS) to better characterise in vivo behaviour at the injection site. This will improve understanding to enable rational formulation development in the future.
