Studentship strategic priority area: Medical ImagingKeywords: Stroke, MRI, MRA, ASL, parallel-transmitAbstract: The overall aim of the project is to develop 7T MRI methods for vascular and perfusion imaging using multi-transmit RF coils that are being developed by our RF Engineering group for high-resolution imaging the human brain. This will be achieved as a series of sub-projects with the following objectives respectively: (1) the design of optimised pTx pulse sequences using computer simulation; (2) the implementation of these pulse sequences on the 7T MRI scanner using bespoke software development tools; (3) performance testing of the pulse sequences in test objects (phantoms) and healthy subjects; (4) comparison study between multiple RF coils to determine which coil provides the highest quality images for vascular applications; and (5) preliminary clinical study to assess the improvement in characterizing disease in small vessels. All sub-projects will be closely supported by an appropriate post-doctoral member of the research team.
