Both the UK and EU have set up an ambitious carbon neutral target to achieve zero carbon emission by 2050. The building sector can play a significant role to accelerate this agenda. The built environment has long being cited as the largest energy consumer, accounting for 40% of the final energy demand globally. In EU and the UK, around 80 to 85% of the existing buildings will still be in use till 2050. However, the current building retrofit rate is too low (i.e. about 1.2% per year) to achieve the carbon neutral target. This project will base on the continuous works from an EU funded project RezBuild (https://rezbuildproject.eu/), and apply multi-optimisation methods to develop a series of novel simulation algorithms for holistic building retrofit at both single building and building clusters level. By working on this project will ensure you acquire substantial knowledge in building energy modelling using multi-criteria analysis methods. You will also have the chance to get connected to a range of active industrial players with specialities in building renovation and sustainable building technologies both in the UK and EU, thereby paving way for your future career development.
