Graduate Outcomes for Widening Participation Students

This project contributes to the literature on the class pay gap by exploring an under-researched area of Widening Participation (WP) practice within Higher Education: graduate outcomes. The study explores the early career trajectories of UoM graduates from different family backgrounds, using "Widening Participation" status as a measurement of socio-economic origin. It will build on the MSc research on the graduate outcomes of LLB Law students, expanding this research to a wider cohort of alumni and subject areas, and exploring the intersection of gender, ethnicity, and class background on WP graduate outcomes. The project adopts a mixed methods approach: survey analysis of graduate activity by WP status, and semi-structured interviews to gain a deeper understanding of any patterns of difference by family background when securing first graduate roles.
