Development of routes to new fluorine containing molecules utilising commodity chemicals

Many refrigerant gases utilise fluorine atoms in their designs and are produced as commodity chemicals in large quantities each year for household and vehicle applications. Despite their uses in commercial applications relatively little has been done to explore their reactivities for small molecule synthesis. This means there is great untapped potential in exploring the fundamental reactivity properties of these gases and applying them to small molecule synthesis. This project will look to increase the scope and sustainability of fluorine incorporation through the repurposing of said refrigerants.
