A fluorine-containing carbohydrate, 2-deoxy-2-fluoro-2-methylribonolactone, is a valuable building block for the synthesis of several important antiviral compounds. The Company, TC Scientific, wishes to develop an efficient and cost-effective synthetic route to this target. The West group will explore several complementary strategies for the chemical synthesis of this compound, and the most promising one will be developed for scale-up at the company. If successful, this project will add several important products to the Company's catalog.
