The Constitution of Independent Hong Kong Identities in Post-2014 Artistic Representations-from Literature to Beyond

This research aims to examine the construction of an independent identity of Hong Kong in post-2014 artistic and linguistic representations starting from Anglophone Hong Kong literature to Sinophone literary works, other artistic representations namely films and music and non-artistic discourses such as online utterances in local forums and government policy documents, from a postcolonial and decolonial perspective with the addition of linguistic research approaches such as critical discourse analysis (CDA) and stylistic analysis. This research will focus on representations produced after 2014 as the year is seen as a turning point of Hong Kong history, marking the emergence of Hong Kong Localism along with the sense of an independent Hong Kong identity, which rapidly grew since then and especially after the Anti-Extradition Law Amendment Bill Movement in 2019.
