英文摘要
The proposed project fits directly with the Wellbeing, Health, andCommunities (WHC) pathway. It uses innovative conceptual andmethodological tools to explore the lived experience of coma. Comaoccupies an interstitial space between life and death. Although intubationand other forms of life support have been brought to public attentionthrough the onset of the COVID pandemic, there has been limitedexploration of this condition from a sociological perspective. By focusing onthis life and death experience the proposed project will extend existingdebates in the social sciences on life threatening conditions thuscontributing to the core thematic focus of WHC. By focusing on theexperiences of coma beyond the hospital context, the study also offers anoriginal contribution to debates on formal and informal healthcare. Theproject is also highly innovative methodologically and will contribute newknowledge to the existing portfolio of activity across the pathway. Theresearch has significant potential to inform third sector organisation andNHS service delivery around ICU, therefore fitting directly with the focus ofWHC on health intervention.
