The research speaks directly to the 'Education, Childhood and Youth'pathway, in its focus on autistic girls' experiences in mainstream educationand through teacher-pupil interactions, an under-researched and vitallyimportant area. This topic and proposed innovative methodologicalapproach contribute significantly to a number of the pathway's key areasincluding disability, access and attainment, wellbeing and the cognitive andsocial-emotional development of learners. The project brings into dialoguethe experiences of autistic women and girls and those of their teachers,with an understanding that the borders dividing these groups are porous, toelicit critical insights into the educational experiences of an often invisibleand marginalised group. The study has wide implications for educationalpractice and understanding of diverse experiences of neurodivergent girlsand women, including for formal and informal education contexts,educational psychology and disability and education policy.
