Exploring the Potential for Diverse Queer Representation in Dance Adaptations of Early Modern Literature through Christopher Marlowe's Edward II

The aims of this study are to propose the dancing body as a fruitful agent through which to gain insight into early modern literature's queer potential, and to explore how the study of the period's homoerotics can make considerable contributions to our contemporary and historical understanding of sexuality. It aims to encourage more intersectional scholarship between queer literary studies and dance studies, to contribute towards the creation of models for analysis and forms of dialogue between the disciplines, and to propose modes of generating and sharing knowledge that do not privilege the linguistic above other epistemic technologies. The project will generate concrete strategies for queer dance adaptation, and encourage the embodied exploration of writers other than Shakespeare.
