During the COVID-19 pandemic, policymakers and managers of indoor spaces were tasked to take fast decisions to mitigate infection levels, often without any scientific input available. With funding from the Welsh government our team developed a new model for the airborne transmission of viruses that rapidly determines the infection risk changes in indoor spaces as time progresses. This studentship will combine research from TEW and KK and be driven by questions arising from Welsh Government, represented by the stakeholder, BC. This research builds on the COVID-19 Intervention Simulator, a web app used by Welsh Government to predict infection spread in enclosed spaces and decide on policies regarding social distancing and social bubble numbers. Understanding disease transmission in small-scale indoor spaces, also allows us to understand transfer from domestic animals (around the home) and agricultural animals (in sheds, stables and barns). Such moving sources will be easily encompassable in the simulation framework.
