This project examines youth engagement in the Irish-language revival movement in Belfast since the Good Friday Agreement (1998). By generating an 'archive-from-below' of oral history interviews, online sources, and material culture in private collections, the project will document and explore the activities of three generations of youth language activists: the first cohort of students from Meánscoil Feirste; the 'Dream Dearg' generation; and the current generation of teenage activists. The project critically assesses the role of youth in the expansion of Irish, explores the complexities around youth instrumentalization/agency, and investigates the role of communityempowerment in post-conflict society.
