Single atoms and molecules can be trapped using an array of tightly focussed laser beams known as tweezer traps. These traps can be rearranged into arbitrary arrays. The particles can store quantum information and the interactions between the particles can be used to entangle them and implement quantum gates. Such systems are becoming increasingly popular for quantum simulation, quantum information processing and metrology. Hybrid systems containing both molecules and Rydberg atoms are of particular interest. Here, quantum information can be stored in long-lived hyperfine or rotational states of the molecules which interact indirectly though resonant dipole-dipole interactions with the Rydberg atoms. The atoms can also be used for non-destructive readout of the molecules. The aim of this project is to implement these ideas. We will first make small arrays of single trapped atoms and learn how to rearrange them and to excite them to Rydberg states. Then we will make arrays of molecules and learn how to use them as qubits and how to implement single qubit operations with high fidelity. Finally, we will trap a pair of molecules together with a single atom, control their spacing, and implement Rydberg-mediated two-qubit gates and non-destructive readout methods
