Mutation analysis is a way of assessing how good software tests are in terms of their fault-finding capability. Unfortunately, tools and techniques are in short supply for programs written in the Rust programming language, a relatively new but popular systems programming language. Rust requires programs to be written in a very constrained way to uphold security and memory handling guarantees for concurrent programming. It is therefore a difficult language to "mutate" that is, to introduce faults that actually compile and can be used to assess software tests. This work will further the application of mutation analysis for Rust, providing a usable technique that will run efficiently and effectively. It will also consider the practical value of the work with studies with real Rust programs and developers.
