This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. We have previously constructed multiplayer analyzer array (MAAD) detectors for x-ray fluorescence. The detector can take very large count rate. However, the energy resolution of the detector is compatible to that of the solid-state detectors. We are now developing dual multilayer analyzer array detectors (DMAAD) to largely improve the energy resolution and background rejection rate. The detector will be tunable in a large energy region. It will have a superb energy resolution (2-3% bandwidth), and will cover a large detection solid angle with reasonable throughput. To achieve these goals, the beamtime provided by 18-ID and 20-BM beamlines of the APS is essential for characterization and commissioning purposes.
