This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. Flavivirus infections such as Dengue and West Nile are emerging in the United States and are considered bioterrorist threats as the virus can be aerosolized in an infectious form. Our envelope protein crystals are the first for this species of flavivirus. It is hoped that a high resolution structure will lead to a better understanding of the fusion mechanism and will aid in the development of inhibitors.
