英文摘要
This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. The purpose of this study is to determine whether an investigational drug with the name zoledronic acid, (a bisphosphonate) plus, vitamin D2, vitamin D and elemental calcium carbonate given after surgical repair on an acute hip fracture, is more effective in reducing the rate of all subsequent bone fractures compared to vitamin D2, vitamin D and elemental calcium carbonate alone, during a two year period of time. This study will also attempt to determine the effect of zoledronic acid on quality of life, physical activities of daily living, body pain, and medical costs (exploratory endpoints).
