This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The objectives of the proposed research are 1) to investigate in dialysis patients the relationship between activities of bone cells, bone turnover, and mRNA expression of parathyroid hormone receptor, vitamin D receptor, interleukin 1, tumor necrosis factor alpha; 2) to prospectively evaluate the effect of dialysis treatment on these mRNA species and bone turnover; and 3) to assess the relationship between C-terminal PTH/serum intact PTH ratio, 1-84PTH, 7-84PTH 1-84PTH:7-84PTH ratio and C-PTH-related protein levels and bone turnover.
