RACE AND CONTROL OF TISSUE RENIN-ANGIOTENSIN SYSTEM: IDENTIFYING CAUSAL GENES

This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. The purpose of this study is to explain the higher prevalence of high blood pressure and its complications in blacks than in caucasians. The hypothesis to be tested is that blacks have increased activity of the renin-angiotensin system in hormones in their kidneys, which is determined by genetic factors.
