This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. Examine the effect on glucose metabolism, as measured by glucose disposal rate and HbA1c, of initial use of half-maximal dose combination therapy with rosiglitazone and metformin for 16 weeks, compared with maximal doses of rosiglitazone or metformin, in subjects with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Examine the effect on cardiovascular risk factors.
