英文摘要
This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. The goal of this study is to determine patient-oriented variables that may explain the ethnic variations in the referral rates to orthopedic surgeon for joint arthroplasty. 890 potential subjects will be identified from the Regenstrief Medical Records System (RMRS) of Wishard Memorial Hospital and the electronic database of the Richard Roudebush Veteran Administration Medical Center (VAMC). Half of the subjects will be African-American (AA) and the other half will be white. Subjects will be asked about their joint pain, health beliefs, and personal satisfaction with their healthcare. A follow up questionnaire about joint pain will be done via telephone on the 12th and 24th month from the time the participant joins the study. Primary care providers (PCPs) will also be queried about their knowledge of joint arthroplasty.
