COLONY STIMULATING FACTORS IN PATIENTS WITH INTERMITTENT CLAUDICATION

This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. This study will evaluate the safety and toxicity of the colony stimulating factor GM-CSF (granulocyte-macrophage colony stimulating factor) in people who have pain in their legs while walking because of blockages in the arteries of their legs. Some individuals are able to naturally grow new blood vessels in an attempt to form bypasses around the blockages. Often these new vessels are inadequate to supply sufficient blood. If it can be safely used, GM-CSF will be used to stimulate new blood vessel growth and relieve symptoms.
