This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. This study is designed to identify candidate genes for hypertension by extensively phenotyping siblings with hypertension and then looking for excess allele sharing among siblings with similar phenotypes. One such phenotype is non-modulation, a blunted response to infused angiotensin II on high and low salt diets. Other phenotypes may include salt sensitivity, low renin hypertension, urinary cortisol, and blood pressure response to angiotensin II infusion. We are also comparing intermediate phenotypes in hypertensive cases and normotensive controls.
