COUPLING OF D-CHIRO-INOSITOL TO INSULIN IN NORMAL AND PCOS WOMEN

This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The purpose of this research study is to test the relationship between insulin and a molecule called D-chiro-inositol in normal women and women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). As a pilot study the specific aims are to determine whether DCI-IPG bioactivity closely correlates with insulin secretion during a glucose tolerance test in normal women, fails to correlate with insulin secretion in women with PCOS during a glucose tolerance test, whether selective inhibition of pancreatic insulin secretion effects DCI-IPG bioactivity, whether stepwise insulin infusion using long duration steady state euglycemic insulin clamp has a bioactivity effect on women previously treated with diazoxide. Normal women and BMI matched women with PCOS will be compared.
