英文摘要
This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. Cognitive impairement is a common sequela of HIV infection that can progress to dementia. The essential features of HIV dementia are disabling cognitive impairment, usually accompanied by motor dysfunction and behavioral change. Two pilot studies of selegiline have demonstrated safety for low dose selegiline and have suggested improvement in verbal memory and psychomotor speed performance in patients with HIV-associated cognitive impairment. The objective of this study is to determine the safety of long-term use of STS in subjects with HIV-associated cognitive impairment and to assess the efficacy of STS in the treatment of HIV-associated cognitive impairment.
