This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. Anorectal malformations are uncommon congenital defects, occurring approximately 1 in 5000 live births. All patients with these malformations have lifelong problems with defecation, and, as a result, can suffer great social and physical morbidity. Although fecal incontinence scoring systems have been described in adults with anatomic fecal incontinence, there have been no studies performed to develop similar scoring systems in children with fecal incontinence due to anorectal malformations. The purpose of this study is to validate a new fecal incontinence scoring system for children with anorectal malformations. Patients who have undergone surgery for anorectal malformations will be compared to two control groups: children with eneuresis and children with no history of urinary or fecal incontinence.
