This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. Hepatitis C (HCV) co infection in people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) is impacting upon the natural history of HIV/AIDS with some studies suggesting progression of both diseases. Therefore, interventions needed to reduce the behaviors that increase the risk of HCV acquisition for morbidity among HIV infected individuals are important. We have developed and validated an educational intervention aimed at this population. This intervention involves the use of new technologies in the form of a computer assisted and interactive educational intervention. tailored to the population of injecting drug users most at risk for HIV/HCV co-infection. Specific Aims First General Aim: Characterize a group of PLWHA who are injecting drugs users in terms of HCV knowledge and risk behaviors.
