This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. ND INBRE continues to build on the access to and use of biomedical research-related electronic resources that was initiated through the ND BRIN grant. A consortium of college and state university librarians, headed by the ND BRIN electronic resources coordinator, Judy Rieke, selects the resources and is responsible for promoting usage on individual campuses. The titles available to undergraduate institutions represents more than half of all electronic subscriptions in the sciences on their campuses. Usage for many of these resources is heavy and steadily growing. For example, since made available in July 2002 through ND BRIN, Nature Suite of reviews and research journals have recorded over 30,000 downloads of articles with the monthly hits nearly tripling over this period. Downloads from all journals total over 80,000, and usage of SciFinder Scholar indicates over 40,000 successful connections. Vector NTI usage has quadrupled since it became available and over 7,000 sessions have been established. The original access was limited to three simultaneous users and due to demand, INBRE provided money for an additional two seats. INBRE researchers from the PUIs were appointed as adjunct faculty at the University of North Dakota School of Medicine & Health Sciences fall 2004. This allows them to access all of the electronic resources at the School and also entitles them to additional assistance in using the resources. The electronic resources coordinator made a presentation on ND INBRE to North Dakota librarians at the state library association meeting in September 2004. She also promoted resources at the Turtle Mountain Research Conference in April 2005, and organized workshops on using the resources in April 2005 for the INBRE annual conference.
