项目摘要
This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. The administrative core is based in the Department of Pharmacology and supports the overall management of the program. The administrative core provides the umbrella for effective operation of the program. The Program Director, Stephen M. Lanier, Ph.D. is responsible for all administrative aspects of the program and oversight of the mentoring effort. Lynnette Small serves as Administrative Coordinator for the COBRE grant and works very closely with the Department of Pharmacology Business Manager, Karen Jorgenson. Ms. Small has established a superb office that handles all fiscal, purchasing, and organizational issues for the COBRE administrative core. She meets monthly with each of the Junior Investigators and Core Directors and weekly with the Program Director, Dr. Lanier. Ms. Small has also worked very closely with our departmental Personnel Director, Mr. Paul Lam, to bring on new staff. Three established faculty joined us as new mentors on the COBRE. Dr. Parthasarathy joined us from Emory University and Dr. Lucchesi joined us from the University of Alabama - Birmingham. Dr. Kapusta is a Professor in the Department of Pharmacology with two R01 grants focused on the role of opioid peptides on control of cardiovascular and renal function. Drs. Lucchesi and Parthasarathy are well funded by multiple grants from NIH and work in the area of vascular biology and/or cardiac hypertrophy. Projects, Directors and Mentors are listed below: Project 1 - PARP1 and Oxidant Stress in the Vasculature Project Director/Mentored JI: Hamid A. Boulares, Ph.D. Mentor: Sampath Parthasarathy, Ph.D. Project 2 - Gene Transfer, Oxidant Stress, and Diabetic Vascular Disease Project Director/Mentored JI: Frank Park, Ph.D. Mentor: Daniel R. Kapusta, Ph.D. Project 3 - Integration of Growth Factors and Integrin Signaling in VSMC Project Director/Mentored JI: Andrew D. Catling, Ph.D. Mentor: Pamela A. Lucchesi, Ph.D. Project 4 - ER to GOLGI Trafficking of Signaling Proteins in Cardiac Myocytes and VSMC Project Director/Mentored JI: Guangyu Wu, Ph.D. Mentors: William Claycomb, Ph.D. and Stephen M. Lanier, Ph.D. Project 5 - Vascular smooth muscle plasticity in nitric oxide deficiency Project Director/Mentored JI: Gregory M. Dick, Ph.D. Mentors: William M. Chilian, Ph.D. and Daniel R. Kapusta, Ph.D. Project 6 - Role of Inflammation in Endothelial Reperfusion Injury Project Director/Mentored JI: Cuihua Zhang, Ph.D. Mentor: William M. Chilian, Ph.D. The administrative support team assisted in the development of two shared instrumentation grants submitted in March 2005, as well as an NIH institutional predoctoral training grant, submitted in September 2004, for "Training in Integrative Pharmacological and Physiological Sciences". These initiatives will directly benefit the developing program in cardiovascular biology. NIH/NCRR Shared Instrumentation Grant "Thermo Finnigan Proteome X LTQ Workstation (LC/MS) with IBM e-server computer" PI: Art L. Haas, Ph.D. Project Period: 04/01/2006 - 03/31/2007 Total Cost: $496,150 Submitted: March 21, 2005 NIH/NCRR Shared Instrumentation Grant "In Vivo Electron Paramagnetic Resonance Imaging System (Bruker Elesys)" PI: Barry Potter, Ph.D. Project Period: 04/01/2006 - 03/31/2007 Total Cost: $482,170 Submitted: March 21, 2005 NIH/NIGMS Predoctoral Training Grant "Training in Integrative Pharmacological and Physiological Sciences" PI: Stephen M. Lanier, Ph.D. Project Period: 07/01/2005 to 06/30/2010 Total Costs: $865,353 The administrative core also established the WEB site for the LSUHSC Cardiovascular Center of Excellence and for the COBRE program "Mentoring in Cardiovascular Biology". http://www.medschool.lsuhsc.edu/cardio_center/ http://www.medschool. suhsc.edu/cardio_center/COBRE.asp In the upcoming year, we will be providing continued support for grant development by Junior Investigators, Shared Instrumentation Awards and grants for infrastructure development and upgrade of animal care facilities. This core is functioning fine and no changes are anticipated in the upcoming year.
