项目摘要

The Administrative and Biostatistics Core will serve all four translational research projects and the two research cores. It will be under the direction of Dr. Joseph Buckwalter (CORT Program Director). Dr. Buckwalter, working with Dr. Thomas Brown (Associate CORT Program Director), will provide overall administrative direction and coordination of all projects and cores. He will also be responsible for facilitating interaction between projects and investigators and in particular interactions between bioengineers, basic scientists, experts in imaging, and orthopaedic surgeons. He will promote and facilitate the translation of basic and bioengineering research to patient-based studies and stimulate new basic research based on the results of the clinical studies. Should the need arise; Dr. Thomas Brown will assume the responsibilities of the program director. The CORT Advisory Group includes Martha Gray, Ph.D. (an expert in study and development of new methods of joint imaging), Walter Herzog, Ph.D. and Jack Lewis, Ph.D. (experienced biomechanists with expertise in the study of joint injury and joint mechanics), Stefan Lohmander, M.D., Ph.D. (an orthopaedic surgeon who has conducted critical studies of joint injuries and post-traumatic osteoarthritis) and Carol Vorwald, R.N. (a lay person with long standing interest in patients with osteoarthritis). Dr. Brown and Dr. Buckwalter will work closely together to make effective use of the CORT Advisory Group and the Enrichment Program. They will also administer the Data Sharing Plan and the Program for Pilot and Feasibility Projects. Lois Lembke, Administrative Assistant II in the Department of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation, has extensive experience in administrating grants and departmental programs. She will assist Dr. Buckwalter with the day-to-day administrative details, program coordination, and planning an evaluation of the program. Her involvement will facilitate supervision and management of the CORT unit and the individual project budgets. Dr. Stephen L. Hillis, Senior Biostatician of the Center for Research in the Implementation of Innovative Strategies in Practice (CRIIISP) at the Iowa City VA Medical Center, has provided detailed consultation and direction for the development of all research projects within the CORT. He will be continually involved in all projects and responsible for experimental design issues, monitoring of data collection, and statistical analysis for all projects.
