TUTORIAL: CLINICAL WAVEFORM ANALYSIS ECG INTERPRETATION

This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. The clinical ability to accurately interpret electrocardiographic (ECG) waveforms is a vital skill. The ECG is the critical initial test in the evaluation of patients with suspected acute myocardial infarction and also in those with life-threatening cardiac arrhythmias. To meet the challenge of this key area of medical education, we are developing a novel web-based multi-media tool entitled ECG Wave-Maven Self Assessment Program for Students and Clinicians. This program is freely available at http//ecg.bidmc.harvard.edu. The tutorial includes over 200 cases and answers of varying grades of difficulty from entry level to highly advanced. The PhysioNet website provides a direct link to this site to facilitate its dissemination. ECG Wave-Maven is supported by a grant (2002-2003) from the Harvard Provost Fund for Innovation in Instructional Technology and Distance Learning.
