CLINICAL TRIAL: REBIF (IFN BETA-1A) AND BETASERON (IFN BETA-1B) IN IFN-NAIVE MS

This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. Interferon beta has demonstrated clear efficacy on a number of clinical measures. However, these agents are known to cause certain adverse effects that can lead to patients discontinuing their treatment. Injection pain is one type of adverse effect. Injection pain is a clinical concern with all injectable DMTs including Rebif(interferon beta-1a) and Betaseron¿. A reformulation of Rebif¿ is currently being tested prior to launch. This study will evaluate the tolerability of this new formulation of Rebif¿ and Betaseron¿ in subjects with RRMS by comparing the mean maximum pain within 30 minutes post injection associated with full-dose injection therapy over the study period.
