This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the
resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and
investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source,
and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is
for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator.
To allow Dr. Faqian Li to focus more on his project, Dr. Steven Armstrong was recently appointed Director of this core late in year 3. Dr. Armstrong has extensive experience in confocal microscopy and his office is located directly across the hall from the confocal room. Dr. Armstrong also spearheaded an NIH equipment grant for a new confocal microscope, which has been resubmitted in year 4.
Proposed projects 1, 2, and 3 require confocal microscopy. The confocal microscope was updated with new software. The old computer for the confocal system is now a working station to process images acquired by the confocal system. We have extensively investigated the translocation of G-protein coupled receptor kinases and focal adhesion kinase during cardiac hypertrophy and failure. The cellular distribution of signaling molecules in cultured cardiac myocytes transfected with adenoviral constructs has been analyzed. We established an H-E staining station. We also provide frozen sectioning for PIs. The imaging core also provides technical training and expertise for investigators doing their own confocal microscopy.
