STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS OF MEMBRANE PROTEINS INVOLVED IN BACTERIAL PATHOGENICITY

This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. This work will involve the novel structural analysis of previously uncharacterized membrane components of a secretion system unique to bacterial pathogens. The crystals generally are very small with large cells and improve significantly with synchrotron sources. We will collect native and seleno-methionine data, as well as potentially heavy atom data (some of the projects have very poor protein expression being membrane proteins and so seleno-met is not possible).
