Project Summary: We are attempting to correlate the structure of the gut microbial community and its microbiome with its metabolome. Measuring levels of short chain fatty acids (acetate, butyrate, propionate) provides us with a biomarker of dietary polysaccharide metabolism by the microbiota. Levels to be measured by GC-MS in samples of cecal contents obtained from genotobiotic mice
