英文摘要
This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the
resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and
investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source,
and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is
for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator.
Methodology developed for in vivo 1H NMR spectroscopy at 7 T was used to investigate neurochemical changes in the human visual cortex during brain activation. It general, neurochemical changes induced by the prolonged visual stimulation were extremely small (d 0.2 ¿mol/g), which required high stability of the hardware and special data processing methods (Mangia et al. 2006). Extensive study with 12 volunteers and two different visual stimulation paradigms revealed extremely small (~0.2 ¿mol/g) but significant concentration changes of lactate, glutamate, aspartate, and glucose (Mangia et al. 2007a). In addition, attenuation in amplitudes of lactate concentration changes was discovered in human visual cortex during repeated identical stimuli (Mangia et al. 2007b)
