项目摘要
Plans to Enhance Candidate’s Research Capabilities
This research supplement will train Ms. Diaz in research methodology and increase her knowledge of how
neighborhood inequities influence health behaviors among residents. She will gain experience in evaluating
research of the social determinants of health including statistical techniques used in the field. The award will
place Ms. Diaz in a rich research environment where she will be exposed to other investigators doing research
at the intersection of primary care and public health. Ms. Diaz is committed to a career in the health care
professions which is evidenced by her involvement in health research pipeline programs STEP-UP as an
undergraduate student and in preparation for her next stage. The mentorship she will receive from Dr.
Chambers (and mentorship team) will place her on track for success in her future graduate work. Her
mentorship plan includes enrichment activities that will expose her to research methods in public health and
lifestyle interventions. More specifically, Ms. Diaz will (1) prepare reading lists on relevant topics to be
discussed with Dr. Chambers during their weekly meetings and journal club; (2) learn how to measure the built
environment and collect data; (3) learn about human subject protection; (4) gain training in motivational
interviewing and patient engagement; (5) complete coursework in research methods and social epidemiology;
(6) present data for scientific meetings; and (6) assist in preparation of manuscripts for publication in peer
reviewed journals.
