Project Summary
We propose a one-year project to make the Data Sharing for Demographic Research (DSDR) data holdings,
which are housed at the Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR), more
discoverable, while facilitating interoperability with other NIH-funded biomedical data repositories. Specifically,
we will:
Aim 1: Update ICPSR’s infrastructure to a new application programming interface (API) for improved sharing
of DSDR and ICPSR metadata with other data catalogs, especially between other NIH-funded biomedical
repositories. The machine-actionability of the new API will expand the volume, granularity, and speed of data
shared and exchanged by ICPSR, which is an underlying goal of the FAIR Guiding Principles.
Aim 2: Create a wider and more comprehensive range of metadata formats to share DSDR and ICPSR
catalog entries with partner repositories, which will expand the discoverability and re-usability of our data.
By building on the solid foundation of FAIR and TRUST-worthy infrastructure at ICPSR, this supplement will
systematically -- and significantly -- improve the interoperability and discoverability of the data holdings.
