项目摘要
This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the
resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and
investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source,
and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is
for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator.
NASH is the most common cause of liver cirrhosis in subjects without viral hepatitis and alcohol related disease. NASH is frequently observed in obese subjects suggesting a potential role of insulin resistance. The cause of NASH is not known but may be due to vascular and/or metabolic changes or a combination of each. To gain better understanding of the relation between vascular function and glucose metabolism we plan to assess leg blood flow responses to endothelium-dependent and -independent vasodilators and insulin sensitivity in subjects with biopsy proven NASH. Leg blood flow will be evaluated by thermodilution technique. Insulin sensitivity will be measured using the euglycemic hyperinsulinemic clamp. We will compare results of our study with out own normative data (studies with females matched for obesity).
