This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The aim of this multi national, multicenter study is to compare the efficacy, safety and tolerability of the new ppar gamma activator tesaglitazar with standard therapy. Preliminary data suggest that tesaglitazar is at least as effective as standard therapy and may have additional effects to lower lipids in type 2 diabetic subjects.
