英文摘要
This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the
resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and
investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source,
and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is
for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator.
The primary aim of this randomized trial is to determine whether lung cancer screening using low-dose helical CT reduces lung cancer-specific mortality relative to screening with chest radiographs in a high risk cohort. A secondary aim is to develop a tissue bank from individuals at high risk of lung cancer both with and without pathologically proven lung cancers. 1000 subjects will be enrolled in the trial at BIDMC over a 3 year period; half will be randomized to low dose spiral CT (experimental arm) and half will be randomized to chest radiography (control arm). The primary endpoint of the imaging part of the study is lung cancer specific mortality. In the bio-marker portion of the study, the hypothesis is that biomolecular markers may be identified in blood, sputum or urine which can enhance understanding of genetic events preceding and associated with cancer.
