This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. This study is designed to determine if there is a relationship between the velocity of eccentric quadriceps exercise and IL-6 and IL-1 response to strenuous exercise. A secondary goal is to determine the relationship between muscle soreness and velocity of exercise and if that soreness relates to cytokine peak concentrations. We hypothesize that higher velocities will create a greater cytokine response and that higher velocity will result in greater soreness.
