EFFECTIVE METHODS FOR DISCLOSING BREAST CANCER DIAGNOSIS

This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. The purpose of this study is to identify effective methods/guidelines for disclosing breast cancer diagnosis. Patients will be interviewed and a questionnaire will be filled out during their visit. In general, communicating diagnosis of cancers is well studied. However, specifically communicating effective methods of breast cancer diagnosis in not well studied and more research is needed on the subject. Issues surrounding the communication process can lead to increased psychological distress, anxiety, and depression in the newly diagnosed patients. This study wishes to identify effective methods for disclosing breast cancer diagnoses.
